I’ve been enjoying the BBC/Discovery Channel productions of Planet Earth. In general I’m not a huge television type person and spend only a few hours a week in front of the tube…but this show is different. Before we knew it, four hours had passed and my husband and I were totally sucked into the series. I like it for several reasons, not the least of which being the fantastic camera work and outstanding shots of animals and nature. I took this shot of my husband’s cat yesterday and was pretty proud of the macro technology in capturing such great detail…but after seeing these shows – well Oberon’s tiny eye pales in comparison with the shots of great white sharks leaping into the air to consume baby seals. But the really great thing, as far as I’m concerned, is that Planet Earth leaves you wanting to know more. At several times during commercials we turned to the internet to answer questions brought to mind by the show. How much does a baby humpback whale weigh? More or less than my Mini? More or less than his Jetta?

Just so you know – a ten week old humpback weighs more than my Mini by ten pounds…and Earth Day programming rocks.
